I heard that they are planning to improve the processors in few years. What do you think about doubling the cores in processors by 2010? I think that it is a very optimistic assumption and I am not sure that they will be able to deliver what they have been promising. The farther you go, the more complicated it gets.

I agree. They had the same thing with good old Pentium processors. They were announcing that they would reach 7, 8 even 10Gz in frequency in a matter of few years. However, they were stuck at 5Gz. So, they changed the strategy and went down the multi-core road. I think that the same thing will happen with multi-core processors.

Exactly. I mean, how many cores can you put in the same space? They will reach the limit soon and then they will have few options. Either to increase the physical size of the computers (which is highly unlikely) or to find some new strategy (like organic molecules instead of silicon).
