I bought my computer a year ago. It worked just fine until last few months. However, in the last two months I came rapidly on more and more games that I could not play on my machine. A friend told me that I should replace my CPU and video card and to do that I also need to replace my motherboard. Is replacing a motherboard technically difficult? If I will replace my motherboard, is it necessary to reinstall OS on my machine?
If your computer is a year old and you want to install some of the newest games on it, it is absolutely normal that you could not. With this frequency of producing games, you have to change your CPU and card at least once per year if you want to play the newest games. Your friend is right, if you want to change your CPU and video card you would, most certainly, have to change your motherboard and probably your memory. Replacing the motherboard is not difficult if you know what to do. Otherwise, leave it to the professionals. Would you have to reinstall OS on your machine you would not know until you replace all those components. Your OS might work just fine after the replacement. There is possibility that it would not start and then you would have to reinstall it. However if your components are standard and you have a Windows XP I think that you would not have any problem.
