Does anyone know what preemptive multitasking is? I have heard that it is used in Windows XP, and I am very interested to know what it is used for. I do not know much about multitasking in general, but I know that it has something to do with sharing CPU. Many thanks for your info. I will really appreciate it

Hello. I think that you know the basics lol. Multitasking has everything to do with sharing CPU capacity. It is when you have several processes active, and they all have to use CPU at the same time. If I understood it correctly, preemptive multitasking makes it easier for all the process to get their part of CPU resources. I know it was used with Amiga OS, and that Microsoft Windows also adopted it with XP, and NT I think. Unfortunately I cannot give you a more detailed explanation ,but I hope you will be able to find more information about it on the net.
