Is there a way to see who blocked you on MSN?

Some of your contacts don’t chat with you on MSN Messenger for a long time. They’re always offline and don’t even respond to your Nudges and Calls. Have they blocked you? How can you find out?

There used to be several techniques you could deploy to find out if you're being blocked or not. While some required covert-op techniques, others were as simple as a mouse-click. Long time ago, Microsoft fixed a privacy bug, in an effort to outsmart Instant Messaging spam, also known as SPIM. After that fix, apparently there's no fool proof method anymore to find out who blocked you on MSN Messenger.

Point is that no MSN block checker can make a distinction between a contact that has blocked you or is just simply offline.

One of the first scripts used for this purpose was Triople. This program has ability to tell you if the desired user was online or offline. Comparing this result with ‘live’ status of contact that apparently blocked you, can tell you the fact.
However, this method is not reliable, because if contact is Online according to Triople, but you see him/her Offline in your messenger, it just could mean that he or she is busy and hid own account in Offline status.

I’ve tested Triople and it has shown bad result, i.e. contacts that were online and with whom I’ve been in the middle of the chat, according to Triople were offline.

So, this block checker is part of the history, I guess.

If you decide to check search engine results, you will get plenty of sites that offer the service of discovering the contacts who blocked you for reason or not.
Some of the most popular are: blockoo.com, blockstatus.com, block-checker.com, funfull.com, etc.

Almost all of them have the button Delete Checker, usually in left navigation menu. When you click that link, you will be asked to type your MSN address and your password.
Does anyone before told you, you shouldn’t type your username and to a 3rd party sites?

The problem is that the most of so called online MSN block checkers for Messenger are simply collecting e-mail addresses for SPAM purpose or compromising security in even worse way. Some of them will auto-install worms that spread to all your contacts and your whole system.

Apparently the only and most efficient way to find out if someone's ignoring you using Offline status is through subtle and smart acting.

Here are the few steps:

  1. Create a new Hotmail or Live account with a user name that has no relation to you (foreign name, different gender, etc.).
  2. Download Mess Patch from Mess.be for your version of MSN or Windows Live Messenger and apply Polygamy option.
  3. Start a second Messenger client after applying the patch and log-in using your fresh MSN account (old account is logged in too).
  4. Choose "Send an instant message" from the Actions (or Extra) menu and instead of selecting somebody from your Contact List (which should be blank with your new account), fill in the email address of the person you suspect of blocking you.
  5. Send a person you suspect that has blocked you, a message with some random content that might get person to react.
  6. If this person replies while being offline on your new account, then he/she probably doesn’t like you. In that case, you can think about the blocking yourself.

* Note: This technique fails when the suspected blocker has chosen the default privacy setting to "Block All Others" (users not added to the contact list).

Another trick is to open your Messenger, go to Tools, then Options. Choose Privacy and then on your list of contacts choose the name you’re suspecting that has blocked you. Right Click on his/her name and if Delete option is enabled, that person has blocked you.

This trick has shown flaws, because if Delete option is enabled, that could mean that person just removed you from the list or never even added you on the list.
What is sure is that if you cannot click on Delete (it’s grayed out), then you’re still on person’s contact list, but he/she ignores you using Offline status.

However, if some of your contacts don’t chat with you for months, they’re always offline, don’t respond to your messages, then you don’t need any checker to find out what happens.
