How to fix laptop keyboard problems

 Laptops have become an integral part of everyday lives, no matter if we are students or business persons. One of the most often problems that we encounter with laptops is the problem with their keyboard. Learn how to fix it in this article.The biggest problem however is that all laptops that are available in the market are not standardized. Each laptop manufacturer produces different sizes of laptops where sometimes even size of laptops’ parts differs. This should not be a problem, until the laptop needs repair or replacement of broken parts. Since one laptop model is quite different from the other, it’s not easy to repair them, or in case of a replacement, to find a part for the specific model of laptop. Even a simple thing like a laptop keyboard, is different for different of laptops and can cause a lot of headache. One of the problems that arise due to continuous usage of laptop is of damaged keys or keyboard in whole. Sometimes, the port that connects the keyboard to the laptop also gets damaged. If the connecting cable inside the laptop is damaged, there is not much that can be done. Repair is however possible if there is only problem with some of the keys. Every key in any laptop keyboard has a spring like arrangement that allows the key to press the sensor below and show the typed words on the screen. Most of the problems with keyboards and their keys are connected with inability of pressing the sensor below, i.e. where typed alphabet will not show on the screen. This problem can be rectified easily and doesn’t require the help of qualified person. First, it’s possible to find an online guide and find out how to take the key out of the keyboard. Once you do that, you can see what's wrong with the keyboard. Problem can be solved by simple replacing the key, or if the damage is more serious, you can try to fix it by yourself or call an expert. If the problem is not big and requires only a key replacement, you’ll soon see that this is the beginning of the real problem. It’s not easy to find a spare part, like the few damaged keys are. You can try in a used laptop store, where the laptops that are damaged and that they cannot be repaired are disassembled and their parts are being sold separately. If a keyboard is damaged more seriously and cannot be simply repaired by replacing the keys, then you have few solutions. You can take your laptop to an expert so it can be checked and repaired if possible. Also, you can use a new external keyboard with a USB or PS2 port. Finally, you can try to fix your laptop’s keyboard yourself. Remember, you do that on your own risk. * Note: If your laptop is still under warranty then you should contact your local service center. Do It Yourself Laptop Keyboard Replacement Model used for an explanation is Sony Vaio PCG-9S1L. Method explained is similar to other Sony Vaio laptops. 1. First unplug AC adapter and remove battery before opening laptop case. 2. Insert flathead screwdriver under the keyboard bezel and lift it up with light pressure upwards. Release plastic latches and remove the keyboard bezel.  3. Don’t apply much force to remove bezel, because some laptop bezels might be connected to the motherboard as shown in picture below. If something else is attached to keyboard bezel, do not remove it, because it‘s not necessary to disconnect the keyboard bezel to replace laptop keyboard. Purpose of bezel removing is to gain access the keyboard screws.  4. Remove screws (usually three) from the top of the keyboard. Carefully lift up the keyboard off the laptop case.  5. You’ll see that keyboard is connected to a motherboard with a flat ribbon cable. Unlock the connector while pressing it toward the laptop LCD screen.  6. In the last picture is shown how to unlock the keyboard connector. Carefully move the connector lock 2-3 millimeters up and then pull the keyboard cable.  7. To attach the keyboard follow these steps backwards.
