I suppose that I’m responsible for that, but it’s very annoying that my XP needs eternity to shut down. I have a Pentium 4 and I suppose that the configuration itself is still not that old. I bought my PC last year and at first everything was great. Then I started noticing that everything was slowing down. Now I think that the shut down process takes a few minutes which is not normal. How to change that?
I think that it’s because you probably haven’t had your operative system reinstalled ever since you bought your PC and if you play video games which you delete from your HDD after you finish them, or if you download a lot of movies and music which you burn and after that delete, there are gaps on your HDD which do slow down the system. That’s why you can first try to perform defragmentation. That is a process which collects and sorts data on your HDD and in a way makes some order on your HDD so that the system can operate faster. Another problem can be that you open to many programs and that the system needs to close all of them properly. Try to open only one program and then to shut down your PC and see what happens.
