I am looking to upgrade to Vista but I am not sure if programs I use are compatible with Vista. There is a quite long list of programs I got used to and I do not want to search for alternatives just because I want to switch to Vista. It would be very nice if you could point me to some Vista Software Compatibility List if there is one.

You can find this information all over internet. This list is populated almost daily and when some program passes Vista Logo certification program or if it is confirmed that is working on Vista then it is added to this list. You can always put a search string Windows Vista Software Compatibility List in Google and you will find plenty of web sites with this list. This list is too extensive to be paste here so I can recommend you ieXwiki as one of the better sources for this.
