I have a computer for last two years. Since yesterday, from time to time, Vista says HD is not formatted. I think that my Maxtor HD is dying and I do not want to lose my data. A friend told me that I should use program called Norton ghost to make some data backups on another drive. He told me that software allows coping complete content between hard's. Is that true?
I think that maybe now is little too late for data backups. If you are not sure about condition of your Maxtor HD, you can use MaxBlast for that. You can download that from Maxtor site. However, I do not know which program you should use but I will certainly think again about using a Norton ghost. That program could scramble your data so bad that you may loose everything on your hard disk. At least find somebody that have some bigger experience in working with Norton ghost and ask him to explain you how to properly and safely use it. Norton ghost may help you in moving complete content of hard drive to another. However, I do not think you should copy complete content of your drive from one drive to another like that. You would never be sure would it work fine enough lately. I think you should first make the same partitions on your new hard and then copy your data from old one.
