I have heard a lot of things about improved security in new Windows operating system Vista. Are that claims justified or it is another marketing hype. Some people go that far to claim that you do not need antivirus software on Vista because it is so secure. Is that true? What is your opinion?

Such claims can not be further from truth then they are now. Of course that Vista needs anti virus software. There are already some viruses written for Vista and you will make a big mistake if you do not install anti virus software. After all Vista is an Operating system and not some miracle and all operating systems have security wholes and bugs.
