Hello! I have Windows XP installed on my Pc and I’m thinking about switching to Vista despite some of my friends are talking me out of that. I like how it looks and I think that I’m going to install it. I have heard that there is so-called protected mode in Vista. Can you tell me what that is and whether it is useful for newbie’s?

I agree with your friends. Vista is great if we are talking bout the visual aspect, but it seems to me that it is too big and complicated when it comes to other aspects. I have really and numerous problems to learn how to use its basics. Besides, I always install the operative system later then the others because I want the manufacturer to correct possible mistakes, to create some patches and to do some debugging. Anyway, if you insist on installing Vista, good luck and carefully read help menu. This protected mode is, as far as I know, used for Internet Explorer 7 in Vista and it helps you surf safely. I think that this mode means that you access only restricted sites which are trusted.
