I bought a new USB flash drive yesterday. However, it is not working with my Toshiba laptop. I thought that it is broken but friend told me that my BIOS is not supporting my new USB flash drive. He told me that maybe I should update my BIOS. Is that true? What is BIOS actually used for?

BIOS is a collection of system programs, which are stored in the ROM memory of your motherboard. Those programs are startup softwares for any computer, desktop or laptop. They are monitoring all components of your computer. The BIOS is used for startup settings of your computer. In BIOS, you can find all the basic data about your computer: list of components, speed of processor, temperature of system and processor, cooler speed etc. Motherboard has its own battery to support the BIOS. If that battery fails, the BIOS will loose its content and your computer would not start. You can monitor motherboard and processor temperature in BIOS. You can also set shutdown temperature. However, I do not think that your motherboard can overheat because of new processor. There is a small possibility that your BIOS is not supporting your new USB flash drive. If Toshiba publishes the newer version of BIOS, you may try to download and install that version. However, be careful because you could damage your Toshiba notebook.
