I have heard many compliments on UNIX operative system, and Linux of course. But I have also heard that many UNIX apps are self serving, even though their source is listed. Can somebody tell me something about Unix operative system, and explain to me what it all means. I am taking some computer classes, but we never mention it. Many thanks

Hey there. First I got to tell you – I am a beginner too. I think you would learn more about it if you asked your teacher, no matter he is not teaching you that stuff. I have heard that Unix OS is a basis for Linux, open source operative system which developed in many way. As well as it applications, which are self serving, meaning they can only function in Unix. Linux was then developed in many different ways and some of them even commercial. But, none of them was ever popular like Windows is, or it will ever be. Although you have to pay well for it, it is in my opinion the best one you can get.
