I just recently heard about layout engines, and now I am a bit interested in that stuff. What I would like to know is, which browser uses which layout engine .I know that Mozzila uses Gecko, but do not know what other application use. For example what does Safari and Opera use? Is it a thing called Presto? Many thanks in advance

Well, the most often used is Trident. It is used in every version of Internet explorer, ever since the version 4. U have heard it was changed a bit for the latest version of IE,IE 7,so it could support all Internet web standards. It was, as they say, made compliant to those standards. Gecko is second by its popularity, used in all Mozzila applications. It is open source, and open to all internet standards and is free to use .It is what is called open source layout engine. Opera uses Presto layout engine, and Apple as I know uses Webcore for Safari. There is lot of material on the web,so you can read about these layout engines.
