When I wanted to buy a new DVD player as a birthday present for my son I was surprised by one thing. I am a programmer and I like to think of myself like a person that has a good technical knowledge. However when sell person told me that I should choose a Progressive scan DVD player I was stunned. I do not know what the hell he was talking about.

Progressive scan for DVD players is a brand new displaying technology. It was meant to replace or help built-in deinterlacers in the new TVs. That technology is forming a picture in the same way as a scanner scans it. That way, the picture has better quality. It is more sharpen and the lines from which it consists are much less visible. However, you will not see so much difference at start. After a while, when you go to see a DVD movie at a friend which has an old style DVD player you will certainly notice the difference. I will always advise people to buy a new technology.
