I have setup a home network for the first time in my life. I have connected two computers with crossover cable and attached a printer on one of them. The problem is that I am unable to set file and print sharing on these two computers. Can you give me some advice about this? Thank you for your help.

You have not provided enough information here. Have you simple file sharing enabled on both computers or not. If it is not simple file sharing then you will have to set permissions more precisely for the sharing to work. Also you have not mentioned operating systems you are using. If you have Microsoft Windows XP Home edition than you have to set guest account on that computer with identical parameters as account on another computer.
