Is it true that some of the commercial applications can be used in FreeBSD, including some of those which are being distributed only in binary form? I have heard about this operative system and I intend to use it but the problem is that I’m currently using Linux. I know that certain programs are not customized for this platform.

I think that you are a bit confused now. Namely both Linux and FreeBSD are operative systems and they are UNIX based which generally speaking means that they are compatible in the sense that you can use Linux based applications on FreeBSD and applications for FreeBSD in Linux. There is yet another good thing. Namely, you can also use certain Linux applications which are being released only in binary forms in FreeBSD. I’d suggest you to try this operative system because I must admit that I prefer those free, open-source applications and systems than Windows. One thin is sure: there is a considerably less number of viruses for those operative systems and they are believed to be more stable.
