I am new in computer waters. I went on several courses and bought me one recently. However, I still have many doubts. I heard few of my colleagues talking about FreeBSD but I was not able to understand what that is. What is FreeBSD? Does FreeBSD works like UNIX? I really need some help.

FreeBSD is an open source operating system. It is based on the version of UNIX, which was developed at the University of California. Therefore, it looks much like UNIX but it is completely free. Today, millions are using combination of FreeBSD/Linux as their major operating system. That combination is often called just Linux, which is wrong. In that combination, Linux represents kernel for FreeBSD operating system. FreeBSD is the operating system with the longest uptime on the market. There were no reports of any crashes of its kernel. I have been using FreeBSD for a long time now and I am completely satisfied with its possibilities. Therefore, I could recommend you FreeBSD without any hesitations.
