I need some help with my Creative X-Fi Extreme sound card audio settings. I downloaded the audio driver update from the Internet. I have Windows XP as operating system for a long period and everything worked fine until yesterday. However, when I try to open downloaded file and install it I get an error message. Now I can't return to normal my Creative X-Fi Extreme. Is it faulty or I have problems with DirectSound?

I don't think that your problem is connected to DirectSound. There is couple of other reasons that could cause problem like yours. I think that everything is OK with your speaker. First, it could be an error in the process of downloading and your Creative X-Fi Extreme driver file might be damaged. You might try to download it once more and than try to reopen it again. You might not have a proper version of operating system installed on your machine. Your version of driver could be for some other Windows like Windows 2000. In that case, you have to find and download a proper version for your Windows XP. Third reason for your problem could be that your driver update may need some other add-ons. If that is your problem, you need to download and install them first.
