Recently, I lost my old job. I decided to change my profession. For my whole life, I have been interested in computers. I also finished few IT courses couple of years ago. Now, I got a job as computer technician in a local department of a big multinational company. It sounds great but now I have one problem. I do not have almost any practical knowledge from IT domain. Almost every day, I come on some problem that I do not know how to solve. I do not want to ask other colleagues. For instance, what is Avant? Is Avant browser working on non-Windows platforms? I would appreciate any advice about that.

First, keep your nerves and stay cool. You do have a good job and you should stick to it. You are in the same position as almost every other new employee in any branch when they get their first job. You have to understand that, when a company employs some freshmen, they do not expect him to know everything. If they want somebody with a strong experience level, they would probably hire some veteran. If they decide to hire you that is because they hope that you have enough knowledge to be a fast learner. You should not hesitate to ask your colleagues for help because they expect you to do that. Even more, your supervisor can punish you for not doing that. Do not worry, you will get enough practice soon enough. Anyway, let us get back to your question about what is Avant and is Avant browser working on non-Windows platforms. I think that you should contact some professional about that. I don't know is Avant browser working on non-Windows platforms.

I also think that you should not loose your nerves because working is the only way for getting real practice. Therefore, try to keep up with your daily tasks and I am sure that you will get experience very quickly. However, I have to disagree with colleague about asking other colleagues for help unless you know some of them privately. If your boss did not specifically told you which one of your 'older' colleagues is assigned to help you whenever you need some help, you should avoid begging for help as much as you can. You have to understand that older colleagues see every newcomer as a potential threat to their jobs, and they are not so willing to help them. They also have enough of their job and not so much time for 'charity' work. I think that you choose right way for asking answers on Internet forums. If you cannot find answers on Internet or in the books, then try to ask a most friendly colleague. From your question about what is Avant and is Avant browser working on non-Windows platforms, I see that you are a 'newbie'. I partially agree with our colleague. You can ask for professional help. However, I think that you should first try to solve that problem by yourself. Avant is popular freeware Internet browser. I think that Avant browser is not working on non-Windows platforms.

I think that you should gather as much confidence as you can and dig in all computer literature that you can lay your hands to. I think there is nothing wrong in asking others help. I also did that when I was a 'newbie'. However, nobody likes colleagues that interrupt him or her all the time. They have their regular job to do, you know. Because of that, you should really try to dig in answers for your problems on the Internet before you ask help from your colleagues. Internet is a real treasure for all kind of information. That way your colleagues would see that you really care about your job and that you are really trying to learn as much as you can. If you cannot find that information on Internet, try to ask some friends or try to find it in libraries. I am sure that, for your question about what is Avant and is Avant browser working on non-Windows platforms, you can find all the necessary information on the Internet. Anyway, I would like to add some more information about this subject. Avant was made by a Chinese programmer under the influence of Opera. Avant browser is working on non-Windows platforms like Linux etc.
