| Oh my! It seems to me that I have bought a damaged external hard disk drive, and it is really annoying me! I have bought a second hand external Maxtor hard disk drive, and my system is not recognizing it. Now, I do not know what to do, how do I test if it is functional at all. Any recommendations? |

| Hello! I think that you should have checked it before you bought it. I mean, it is a rule number one, when you are buying second hand devices, because you can never know is it good or not. Now, you are stuck with what you bought and there is no turning back. But, it doesn’t mean that it is not functional at all. It would be wise to check whether it is functioning on some other computer, it may be that the port you are connecting it to is damaged, and not your Maxtor hard disk drive. This is the first thing I would do. |
